ISR Self-Rescue® Survival swimming Lessons and Skills
Rollback-to-Float: Infants 6 months to 1 yearThis is a basic survival skill for students who are crawling; infants 6 months to 12 months. Infants will be taught to rotate from a face-down position in the water to a back float. The rollback to float program teaches breath control, correct floating posture and the skills to attain a back float and remain floating for a varied period of time until help arrives. A child who enrolls in the ISR Self-Rescue® program as an infant will learn the correct posture for swimming early which will facilitate learning at the next level.

Swim-Float-Swim: Children 12 months to 6 yearsThe ISR Self-Rescue® instruction teaches the skills necessary for a child to reach the steps, edge of the pool or shore. This process begins with teaching breath control and the skills to turn around in the water to secure the edge. Children learn correct swimming posture, movement through the water, the rollback-to-float sequence, as well as rotating to a face down position to continue to swim. This “swim-float-swim” sequence can be repeated until safety is reached.

Refresher LessonsRefresher lessons are a vital part of maintaining your child’s ISR Self-Rescue® skills. While ISR Self-Rescue® has a 94 - 100% retention rate, your child will need some adjustments due to their physical growth. Your child’s center of gravity has changed since the last time he or she were in the water. Refresher lessons allow for making minor adjustments to your child’s swim and float due to these changes.
By participating in refresher lessons you continue to help your child gain more confidence (and competence) in the water. Refresher lessons typically take two weeks. Refresher lessons are for previously registered ISR Self-Rescue® students. |
